On the 16th February our SISS Primary children went on their trip to the Staatstheatre Darmstadt to see the play “Peterchen´s Mondfahrt”.
It is the first time that the whole Primary school went on a trip together. We would like to thank all parents for supporting the event as well as Mr Heiko Baum for organizing it.
In German and German additional Language classes the children learned about the plot. Everybody was very excited and expectations were high as some of the younger children had never been to the theatre before.
“Peterchen´s Mondfahrt” is an old German fairy tale about a cockchafer called “Herr Sumsemann” who lost one of his six legs and has to go on a journey to the moon to get it back. The culprit, who is a wood thief, chopped off Herr Sumsemann´s leg and had been exciled to the moon. However, in order to start his journey, Herr Sumsemann needs to find two brave children who are prepared to accompany and help him on his dangerous adventure. The courageous children Peter and Anneliese learn how to fly and the three set off to meet many different challenges and friends until they finally reach the moon. But even there they must deal with the wood thief who already awaits them.
Our SISS children enjoyed watching the different characters of the play, the wonderful costumes (eg golden sun, frightening man of the moon) as well as the live sound effects being performed in front of the stage. It was a wonderful trip with plenty of after-show impressions to share with their buddies.
Hopefully, there will be the opportunity for a theatre trip next year again.
